Why teachers choose la Dogana

A venue that feels like family — and runs like a professional retreat operation.

Planning a retreat abroad is exciting and complicated. At La Dogana, we don’t just rent space: we support you as a retreat host. Our women-led team helps you shape the experience, coordinate logistics, and take care of your guests on-site, so you can focus on teaching and holding the container.

What we handle for you

From pre-retreat planning to arrival day, we help you with the practical details: guest communication templates, rooming coordination, dietary preferences, transfer planning, and the on-site rhythm of meals and activities. If you want, we can also suggest a retreat flow that blends yoga with authentic Italy (villages, tastings, gentle hikes), without over-scheduling.

  • Pre-retreat planning support + on-site assistant
  • Schedule design around your teaching style
  • Guest care, meals, logistics, local experiences (optional)

Is La Dogana the right fit for your retreat?

La Dogana is a great fit if you’re planning an intimate retreat for 12 to 28 guests and you want the feeling of exclusive use, a place where your group can truly connect and build a shared rhythm. It’s especially ideal for teachers who prefer a venue that feels like a partner, with on-site support, rather than a DIY location where you have to manage every detail alone.

If food is an important part of your retreat experience, you’ll feel at home here: we offer retreat-friendly meals and can accommodate common dietary needs (vegetarian/vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free) with advance notice. La Dogana is also perfect for guests who want a retreat that blends yoga with the best of Italy: slow mornings, beautiful landscapes, local culture and experiences, rather than a program focused on yoga only.

It may not be the right match if you’re looking for a party atmosphere, late-night nightlife, or a city-based retreat. La Dogana is about nature, explore, rest, and a grounded, authentic Italian countryside experience.

Yoga space

Your practices take place in a dedicated indoor yoga room inside our restored ancient olive mill: a space created specifically for retreats, with a peaceful lake view, a beautiful terracotta floor, and air conditioning/heating for comfort in every season.

We provide quality props so you can travel light: Manduka mats, blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, and a Bluetooth speaker for music, meditation, or sound journeys.

And when the weather is right, we’re happy to set up an outdoor practice as well on the lawn.

Accommodation

Rustic private apartments + teacher house

Accommodation at La Dogana is designed to feel authentic and comfortable, with a relaxed countryside elegance. Guests stay in 11 rustic private apartments across the estate, for a total of 20 bedrooms, each with its own character and a sense of privacy while still feeling part of the same shared retreat home.

For retreats, we offer exclusive use of the venue starting from 12 guests, so your group can fully settle in, create a rhythm together, and enjoy the spaces without outside visitors. Teachers typically stay in the independent coach house, often referred to as the “teacher house”, a separate accommodation that gives you a little extra quiet and privacy, while still being close to the heart of the retreat.

La Dogana is especially loved for its community vibe. Smaller groups tend to create deeper connection: meals feel more intimate, conversations flow naturally, and guests often leave feeling they’ve shared something real, like a temporary family in the Italian countryside.

Homemade Italian Food

Food is a big part of the retreat experience at La Dogana. Our kitchen serves homemade Italian meals designed to feel nourishing, comforting, and easy to enjoy alongside a yoga schedule. After the morning practice, guests can start the day with a continental buffet breakfast, with a relaxed rhythm that fits retreat mornings.

Lunches and dinners are served as three-course meals at the table, creating a warm sense of community. Wine is included with meals, and we love ending a dinner the Italian way: with a small limoncello as a simple, celebratory touch.

We are naturally vegetarian and vegan friendly, and we can accommodate gluten-free and lactose-free needs when we know in advance. Our goal is to make every guest feel cared for without making the meal experience complicated.

Whenever possible, we cook with ingredients sourced from local farmers and small family producers, supporting the surrounding countryside and keeping flavors authentic and seasonal.

Logistics & How to Book

Easy logistics for international groups

Hosting a retreat abroad can feel complex, so we make logistics as smooth as possible for you and your guests. Depending on the package, we can arrange private transfers to and from Florence or Rome, and we’ll support you in collecting flight details, coordinating arrival times, and organizing group shuttles so everyone arrives with less stress. We can also include a convenient supermarket stop before check-in, so guests have anything they want for their apartment right from the start.

How booking works

Booking La Dogana is simple and structured. First, we’ll confirm your preferred dates and make sure the venue is the right fit for your group. Once everything is aligned, we sign the contract and your retreat is officially reserved. From there, you typically have around two months to market your retreat and begin filling your spots. As guests join, the guest booking process starts and we support the flow with the practical details needed for a smooth arrival. Once your retreat is confirmed, we’ll also share a set of photos, videos, and Instagram-ready assets to help you promote the experience beautifully and consistently.

Yoga Retreat FAQs

Do you help with planning the retreat schedule?

Yes. We support you with retreat flow and logistics so you can focus on teaching. We can also suggest optional Italian experiences that pair well with your style (without over-scheduling).

What experiences can be added to the retreat?

Add-ons can include wine tastings, cooking classes, tours, and other curated local experiences.

What seasons are best for yoga retreats at La Dogana?

Spring and autumn are typically the most popular for weather and atmosphere, but we’ll recommend the best fit based on your retreat style and preferred dates.

How are you in advance should I book?

We recommend booking about 18 months in advance, especially if you’re aiming for peak seasons like spring or early fall. Occasionally we can accommodate later requests if dates are flexible, but planning early gives you the best choice of weeks and makes it easier to market and fill your retreat.

We’re currently opening inquiries for 2027 dates.
